2008: A Year in Review

by Shar Rundio

WOW, what a year!  In the spirit of transparency I can honestly and emphatically say, “I don’t ever want to do that again!”

The year has been tough for many.  We have seen may great Realtors, Lenders, Builders, Title Companies etc. not make it. Many of those that are left have seen their fair share of challenges, too.

It has been a year of:

  • working our tails off and praying that there is a paycheck at the end of the months of work but no real promise that it will come
  • holding on the line with banks and trying to remain pleasant while being told that they have lost the file yet another time
  • “AS-IS” forecolsures
  • 6-9 month long short sales
  • heartbreak sitting across the table from those homeowners who are REAL people too

It’s also been a year of learning and remembering  the truly important things in life.  Some of my learning experiences came in these forms:

  • watching a title company decide to take a pay cut of 10% across the board rather than letting people go
  • acknowledging that you gain more by being learning based and abundance thinking rather than scarcity and fear based.  Thank you to Keller Williams and my blogging/Twitter friends for being example of this.
  • reading Gary Keller’s SHIFT book taught me that crazy markets come and go, they are cyclical: be prepared and lead with revenue.
  • watching a loving family who doesn’t have their heath or home anymore.
  • living through the realization that a failed partnership is better than a failed friendship

It HAS been a crazy year and I don’t want to relive it but I am stronger because of it and wouldn’t trade the learning opportunity for anything (well…).  At any rate, I want this post not to be about the challenges but rather about hope and the strength to carry on.  So, for all of you…whoever you are…however you came to read this post…I wish you hope and strength and I leave you with a video.  The words don’t exactly match my meaning but I think it will be a fun reminder that we will survive!

Blessings to you and yours in 2009!
